THIRD DEGREE by Julie Cross ~ Review & Giveaway

Fans of Monica Murphy and Tammara Webber will savor this New Adult novel—a story about coming of age in the heat of the moment—from Julie Cross, the internationally bestselling author of the Tempest trilogy.

I used to be “Isabel Jenkins, child prodigy.” As lame as that sounds, at least it was an identity. But now I’m not sure what I am. I just failed the most important exam of my life—the emotional readiness test required to get into a medical residency program—and it turns out my parents can’t stand each other. Now I’m trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces of my life, and that means re-enrolling as a college freshman, but this time I’m shutting the books and majoring in being eighteen.

But so far, my roommate hates me and I’m not into the party scene. The only good thing about school has been getting to know my insanely hot RA. Marshall Collins makes me wonder about everything I missed while I was growing up too fast. Pretty soon we’re hanging out constantly, but for the first time, I find myself wanting more than a no-strings-attached physical relationship. And the lesson I really need is one Marsh definitely can’t teach me: love. Because I’m going to be alone forever if I don’t learn fast.

Advance praise for Third Degree
“With quirky characters, laugh-out-loud moments, and a touching romance, Third Degree is a refreshing entry in the New Adult genre. I can’t wait to read what Julie Cross comes up with next!”—Roni Loren, bestselling author of Need You Tonight

“I fell for quirky, brainy, socially awkward child prodigy Izzy and even more so for her sweet, compassionate, and hot RA, Marshall. I was rooting for their happily-ever-after and was sighing with satisfaction by the end.”—Christina Lee, author of the Between Breaths series

“Loved! Fans of Huntley Fitzpatrick’s My Life Next Door and Tammara Webber’s Easy will fall hard for this book.”—Krista Ritchie, co-author of the Addicted to You series

My Thoughts:

I really liked this story and the intelligent, quirky far from perfect main character, Isabel. I liked Marsh even more.

Isabel was a child prodigy. She had a photographic memory and an off the charts intelligence. She graduated high school and college at a very young age and at the tender age of eighteen, is an intern at a hospital. All is well until she does something that she's never done and probably will never do again, failed a test. It was a psychological, emotional readiness test.

She doesn't deal well with the set back but decides to go to a different college and learn to be human so to speak. She missed so much of her teenage life while studying, that she feels it would help her to pass the evaluation next time around.

At college, things are harder than she thought they would be and she almost gives up. Almost!

Poor Izzy, had so much to deal with! Things start looking up when she meets Marshall though. :-)

These two characters were great together and with the other characters.  I would not mind reading more about them. More books please?

Third Degree reminded me of a cross between Doogie Howser, House, Grey's Anatomy and Son in Law with Pauly Shore (just the school part, not the farm part!). There was plenty of medical lingo but it wasn't written to be confusing. :-)

There was action, both hospital and school atmospheres, romance, drama, some twisty turns, and some steam that was tastefully written. My emotions were up and down through out the book.

It was a nice change of scenery and plot!

I would recommend reading this if you like medical jargon, school settings, or characters with issues other than drugs, booze and sexual proclivity.

I received an ecopy in exchange for my honest opinion. I thought it was splendid! It was a refreshingly different take on romance.

    1. I liked that movie too! As I noted above don't expect tractors, chickens, and country music. Just the beginning of the movie jives!
