GGMMMU ~ Goblins, Trolls, Gnomes, Elves and Gargoyles! Freebies and Giveaway

Welcome to day Four of my Ghoulishly Good Monster Mash Mix Up!

As the post title so eloquently pointed out, today's focus is combined to include goblins, trolls, gnomes, elves and gargoyles. :-)

There are books for each of these but not near as many as weres or vamps.

Hopefully, you won't have any problems with the combined GGMMMU challenge questions for today. :D

Here are some books that fit the group. I must confess that I have not read most of them. :-(

gob·lin [ góbblin ]

A tiny mischievous or evil creature: an imaginary being resembling a small man of unpleasant appearance, usually evil or mischievous

troll  [ trōl ]

Supernatural beings described as trolls dwell in isolated rocks, mountains, or caves, live together in small family units, and are rarely helpful to human beings. Their appearance varies greatly; trolls may be ugly and slow-witted or look and behave exactly like human beings, with no particularly grotesque characteristic about them.

gnome [ nōm ]

1.tiny supernatural being: in folklore and fairy tales, a small imaginary being usually portrayed as a hunchbacked man with a long white beard who lives underground guarding treasure

2.statue of gnome: a small figure or statue representing a gnome, used as a decoration

3.offensive term: an offensive term that deliberately insults somebody's relatively small size and appearance

elf[ elf ]

1.small supernatural mischief-maker: in folklore, a small lively imaginary being resembling a human with pointed ears, often considered to have a mischievous nature and magical powers

2.small mischievous person: any small person, especially a child, who plays pranks or tricks

gar·goyle [ gar gòyl ]

1.grotesque drainage spout: a spout in the form of a grotesque animal or human figure that projects from the gutter of a building and is designed to cast rainwater clear of the building

2.statue of grotesque figure: a grotesque carved figure

3.somebody like carved figure: somebody thought to resemble a carved gargoyle

  1. Ok I had to laugh and kinda squee when I saw gnomes. My best friend loves them. She has a huge collection going. So whenever I see one I have to buy them for her. So they have a special place in my heart. But also I love gargoyles. I have a little collection of them going for myself. :)

    1. So far, I have actually read the Goblin King by Shona Husk, Switched, Trace's Psychic, and Stone Cold Revenge. I have a few of the books on my shelf waiting for me to read. Mostly though, I added a bunch to my TBR list as I was searching for books to add to this category! :-)

  3. I would have to say elves, just because I haven't read any books about goblins or gargoyles, and they don't sound very sexy.

    2. if you take the model on the cover of the goblin king they are sexy^^

      elves you have a lot of variation but then if those in tolkien were sexy ( legolas hum yummy) then in harry potter..... not so sexy^^;;

  4. +JMJ+

I was surprised by this post. These creatures are hardly sexy! ;-)

Then again, a lot of my friends went gaga over the Goblin King in Labyrinth, so maybe there's something to it . . .

To answer your question, if I had to be one of these, I'd be an elf. =)

LOL! I'll grant you that! ;-) But if someone had shown me the cover with the word "Goblin" obscured and asked me to guess what it was, I would have picked a completely different supe.

    5. It just goes to show that we all have an ideal in our head for something and sometimes it is hard to get around it. I'll take the new and improved type of goblin visual over the old anyday! ;-)

    6. I think in Laurell K Hamiltons Merry Gentry series there where some goblins that sounded pretty hot? Also some that were very disgusting and disturbing LOL

  5. Okay, so if I have to pick a favorite between the five choices, it would be as follows:

    1. Elves: not like the Santa Clause elves but the Lord of the Rings elves that are amazing and somehow seem like they are so much more advance than we are.

    2. Gargoyles: Anyway, the reason I picked this one is first of all because I adored them watching the Disney movie "Hunchback of Notre Dame and I love how the idea of them continues to change and mold into more modern concepts.

    3. Gnomes: My best friend has a serious addiction to gnomes and every where she goes, she takes a gnome with her as a sort of comfort object and odd obsession. She even has a book about the gnome apocalypse. So because of her, I have a love for these odd little creatures.

And so on, and so forth. Anyway, thanks for the giveaway!
